The Student Pen is a place where PHS students can submit their pieces of art for the school to see. It is a place where creativity and imagination of any kind are welcomed and celebrated. Submitted pieces are categorized and given a brief description so that you, the viewer, can easily find a piece that interests you. Alongside written stories, art pieces are also on display, with our school’s fantastic artists graciously donating their work for your viewing pleasure. Before finding a creative story to read or an art piece to look at, it is important to remember that art is a part of the artist. Every word, every paragraph, every paint stroke and every line comes from deep within the artist’s core. The finalized product is left with a bit of the creator, so it is important to be respectful and kind despite what you think about the piece itself. So please be kind and respectful to the people who are showing you works of art that are dear to them. Another important detail is that there are no content warnings on any of the pieces, as placing content warnings could potentially spoil the story itself. Sometimes the creative process leads writers to dark places in storytelling, and acknowledging this is important. However, we will be labelling specific stories as safe so that people who would otherwise have to avoid these darker works can still appreciate our works. Without further ado, please enjoy our students’ wonderful pieces of art!
Please send any submissions of stories, essays, poetry, and artwork/photography to: kohagerty@pittsfield.net

Bloodied Snow was written for Ms Negrini's "Your Side of the Story" project. The piece follows the perspective of the king from "Snow White" after his wife's demise. Read for a tale emphasizing the detrimental effects of guilt on the heart and the self destructive actions of a broken man who has nothing to gain, and everything to lose.
