Hope Middle School Orchestra students will be collaborative musicians that will learn about different musical elements. Students will deepen their knowledge and advance their level of musicianship through ensemble, rehearsal and performance opportunities. We will grow together while creating independent musicians by participating in a balanced music education.

6th Grade Orchestra

Students with prior orchestra experience are encouraged to continue orchestra in 6th grade at Hope Middle School.

Beginners Accepted!!!

Orchestra instruments include Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass.

It is recommended that students should have completed at least one year of string classes and be able to play on grade level. Students continue to develop an ideal sound, a sense of good intonation, correct position, posture and bowing techniques. The basic fundamentals of music reading and performing are emphasized.

7th Grade Orchestra

Students should have played in an orchestra for at least two years and be able to play on grade level. Seventh grade strings should be a continuation of sixth grade orchestra. Students continue to develop musical understanding and playing techniques.

8th Grade Orchestra

Students should have played in orchestra at least three years and be able to play on grade level. Eighth grade orchestra should be a continuation of the seventh grade year. Students continue to develop music reading ability and performing skills. There should be evidence of a clear concept of ideal tone and intonation, while demonstrating an advance level of facility with the bow and left-hand technique.

MPA

MPA is a major assessment event for music programs in which a musical performance is evaluated on specified criteria. Across the state, musical ensembles prepare for and perform at MPA, which is much like a performance EOG. Adjudicators will evaluate our ensemble as we perform and then assign a score based on how we deliver our pieces.
