Procedures for Student Parking
While operating a motor vehicle on campus, all drivers and passengers are governed by all Pitt County Schools and Ayden-Grifton High School policies relative to student conduct. Because parking is a privilege, forfeiture of parking privileges may occur upon any reported violation of law, violation of “Pitt County School’s Code of Student Conduct” or failure to adhere to the parking regulations hereby stated. In such cases of forfeiture, no refunds will be issued.
Each student must complete a “Student Parking Registration Form.” This form will not be accepted and a permit will not be issued until ALL information has been completed, a valid NC Driver’s License has been verified and all delinquent/current fees are satisfied.
The student parking area will be the south end of campus. All students will park within this area. Students shall not park in front or any spaces designated as staff parking. Students are required to back in parking space with no exceptions.
When students arrive to school they will immediately leave the car and proceed into the school to the designated waiting area. Refusal to leave the parking lot when school officials give warning will result in the loss of parking privileges and/or disciplinary action for refusal to follow directions.
When students arrive on campus, they are considered at school. If a student leaves campus without permission, the student is considered skipping, unless they have been cleared through the office to check out. Students who use their cars to skip school or help others skip school will be subjected to disciplinary action at the discretion of the administration.
At no time during the day are students permitted to go to their cars unless they have been granted permission from an administrator.
Driving to school is a privilege, not a right; this privilege can be revoked if abused by the student.
Parking passes are $50 per school year, no matter what time of the school year it is purchased. Replacements are $5. Students must pay their school fees in order to obtain a parking pass.
All spaces in the designated student parking areas are numbered. When the student purchases a parking pass, they are purchasing the privilege to park in an assigned space. The pass issued to the student will identify the space assigned to them. At no time will students be permitted to park in any other area during the school day. Towing will be enforced at owner’s expense when deemed necessary.
At no time can a student parking pass be transferred to another student for any reason.
If someone is parked in your assigned space, please notify Mr. James, or the School Resource Officer, or report to the office immediately.
Safe driving procedures should be practiced at all times. The speed limit when entering and exiting the school campus is 10 mph. Careful attention and consideration should be given to pedestrians while driving on campus. All students are required to wear a seatbelt in accordance with North Carolina’s seatbelt law.
Any problems such as theft or vandalism should be reported to the School Resource Officer immediately.
All student vehicles parked on campus must display a valid parking pass on the rear view mirror. Parking pass needs to be visible.
Failure to follow specific guidelines will result in loss of driving privileges:
Not properly displaying parking pass
Improper parking (students are to back into parking spaces)
Failure to leave parking lot area upon arrival to school
Careless/Reckless driving
Consequences for failure to follow parking guidelines:
1st offense: Written warning
2nd offense: Suspension of driving privileges for one week (5 consecutive school days)
3rd offense: Suspension of driving privileges for two weeks (10 consecutive school days)
4th offense: One month (20 consecutive school days)
If a student parks on campus while driving privileges are revoked, the student will lose driving privileges for the remainder of the year and the vehicle will be towed at owner’s expense.
Students who choose to drive private vehicles to school are charged with the responsibility of being punctual and arriving at school on time. TARDINESS AS A RESULT OF PROBLEMS INVOLVING A PRIVATE VEHICLE WILL BE UNEXCUSED.
