MIND AND BRAIN LAB
Welcome
The mission of the Mind and Brain Lab is to discover how the brain gives rise to the mind. Our basic research examines the neural basis of speech, language, reading, working memory, and learning. Complementary applied research draws upon this foundation to inform studies on effective instruction and intervention in reading and math.
Lab director
Dr. Julie Fiez directs the lab at the University of Pittsburgh. She is a Professor in Psychology, Neuroscience, and Communication Science and Disorders, a Senior Scientist in the Learning Research and Development Center, and Co-Director of the Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition and the BRIDGE imaging center.
Across projects, we use behavioral, magnetic resonance imaging, intracranial recording, and neuropsychological methods involving a diverse set of participant groups.
