Expectations
Be on time. You should be seated when the tardy bell rings.
Be prepared. Have all the needed supplies with you every day.
Be considerate and respectful. Good behavior and cooperation is expected of all students all the time.
Follow all school policies on attendance, tardies, make-up work, dress code, prohibited behaviors, academic integrity, and use of technology. These are described in the Student Code of Conduct. Please do not chew gum or bring food into the classroom! You may have a water bottle with a top.
Grading System
· Daily work (homework, quizzes, worksheets, etc.) will comprise 40% of your grade and tests will be the remaining 60%.
· Some homework assignments will be graded for effort (usually 10 pts each) while others will be graded for accuracy.
· Quizzes will be given periodically between tests to help reinforce new concepts.
· Expect three tests in a six-weeks grading period. (100 pts each).
· Extra help is available before school Tuesday – Friday from 7:30 – 7:50. Other hours can be arranged if needed. Please let me know and we can schedule some time.
Homework
· All homework is to be kept in a notebook unless otherwise directed.
· The assignments and the date should be written at the top of every homework assignment.
· A maximum of 70% credit will be given to homework completed after it is checked in class, unless you were absent.
· Homework problems should be corrected when we go over them in class.
· Keeping an organized notebook with class notes and corrected work will help ensure success in math!
Make-up Work
· It is your responsibility to make up any missed work during absences. Look on your Canvas page for any missing assignments. If you miss a test, get with me ASAP to schedule a time for a make-up test.
Keys for Student Success
1. Be an active listener and active participant in class. Class sometimes begins with a warm-up. This warm-up reinforces the lesson from the previous day. It is important for the students to be on task during these activities.
2. Do your homework. You will be given an assignment to do at home, so you can practice something you’ve started to learn in school. When you do something by yourself, then you know that you’ve really learned it. When you are doing your homework in math, you are studying. When you are correcting your homework in class, you are learning. You learn from mistakes in math. If you do not correct your homework, it is useless. Sometimes the same assignment may need to be worked again to make sure you understand it. The KEY is not to get behind and if you don’t understand, ask questions.
3. Be prepared for tests. To prepare for a math test, you need to plan ahead. This means you can’t wait until the night before the test to do all your studying. Practice the work you’ve learned; especially material you did not understand the first time. Just looking at the material won’t help, so do not just read over your books and notes. Make sure you rework the harder problems at the end of each lesson in the textbook. Make review cards. A review card can include sample problems, formulas, or rules you may need to memorize.
