The Shepton Theatre Department is proud to offer a variety of courses that challenge students and aide them in achieving their goals.
Theatre I - Basic theatre studies include exploration of literature, history, and performance. Students will engage in activities that will help them to appreciate the performing arts well into the future. There is no extracurricular requirement, but students will have an opportunity to audition for roles throughout the year. Students must complete two Individual Play Reviews throughout the year by reading or seeing one play outside of class per semester.
Theatre II - Advanced theatre studies include literature and a stronger focus on performance. Students who enjoyed Theatre I will continue to expand their love of the theatre. There is no extracurricular requirement, however students are encouraged to audition for and participate in Shepton productions if desired. Students must complete two Individual Play Reviews throughout the year by reading or seeing one play outside of class per semester.
Theatre I/Theatre 2 Advanced (Shepton Performers) - By application and audition only, this class is intended to prepare performers for the next step in their theatre journey. They will follow the Advanced Theatre Curriculum. There is no extracurricular requirement, however students are required to audition for Shepton productions for the audition experience, but are not required to accept a role. Students must complete two Individual Play Reviews throughout the year by reading, seeing, or participating in one play outside of class per semester.
Productions I/II (Shepton Players) - By application and audition only, this challenging curriculum will propel students to a higher understanding of what it is to be a performer. Focusing on movement, voice, and character analysis, students will gain the tools needed to further their endeavors. Students are required to audition for and accept roles they are offered in all Shepton productions. Students must complete two Individual Play Reviews throughout the year by reading, seeing, or participating in one play outside of class per semester.
Technical Theatre I/ II - Students will learn the basics of backstage theatre and push their creative boundaries. Studies include set design, costumes, lighting, sound, publicity, and makeup. Students will engage in various activities which will enhance learning. They will have the opportunity to construct a set. There is no extracurricular requirement, but students will have an opportunity to apply for backstage roles throughout the year. Students must complete two Individual Play Reviews throughout the year by reading or seeing one play outside of class per semester. (application required)
Technical Theatre I Advanced/Technical Theatre II Advanced (Shepton Producers) - This class is composed of students who have been admitted by application and recommendation only. Students will learn advanced applications involving theatre technology. Students are required to apply for and accept a backstage role in the Shepton Theatre mainstage productions. Students must complete two Individual Play Reviews throughout the year by reading, seeing, or participating in one play outside of class per semester. (application and recommendation required)
