beginning band
Beginning Band is a curricular course designed to introduce students to the proper performance technique of concert band instruments through focused daily study. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of music literacy, including but not limited to music reading, terminology, listening skills, performance evaluation and music appreciation in addition to performance techniques.
Our number one goal for each of our beginning band members is to build upon his/her knowledge of and appreciation for MUSIC. We achieve this through a well-rounded curriculum presented with enthusiasm in a safe environment.
wind ensemble
Varsity: This band is three levels above the Beginning Band. Students will be expected to have maintained mastery of all previously-taught skills.
This band will be asked to perform very challenging music at a high level of mastery. Students will be expected to demonstrate advanced technique in scales, exercises, listening skills and music theory as well as developing maturity in tone and intonation.
Student will attend once-a- week rehearsals or “sectionals” during the majority of the school year to provide them with the instruction necessary to accomplish these goals.
symphonic band
Non-Varsity: This band is two levels above the Beginning Band. Students will be expected to have maintained mastery of all previously-taught skills.
This band will be asked to perform challenging music at a high level of proficiency. Students will master intermediate concepts in scales, exercises, listening skills and technical proficiency as well as developing maturity in tone and intonation.
Student will attend once-a- week rehearsals or “sectionals” during more demanding parts of the school year.
Concert band
This band is one level above Beginning Band. It will begin with a review of concepts from the first year and then continue into more complex warm-ups, exercises and music.
Students will also be introduced to more advanced vocabulary and listening skills in addition to strengthening their playing technique/instrument fundamentals.
