Q: What is FIRST Tech Challenge?

Q: How do I join?
A: Applications will open soon for the 25-26 school year! Please join the Google Classroom using the code ulshlaq.
Q: How many members will be selected?
A: Up to 10 members will be selected for the competition tea. With the closing of certain campuses, we will have another round of applications specifically for students new to Schimelpfenig and select a few more members at the beginning of the next school year. We will also select 4-5 6th graders next year as learners.
Q: Am I guaranteed a spot if I was a team member last year?
A: No, all members must re-apply. However, your contributions to the robotics team from the past year will be brought into consideration.
Q: Am I guaranteed a spot if I was a learner last year?
A: No. All learners must re-apply. Your experience and attendance at robotics in the previous year will be brought into consideration.
Q: Is robotics a large time commitment?
A: Yes. You will be required to attend meetings 2-3 times a week in order to prepare for competition. Some meetings and all competitions will occur on Saturdays.
Q: Can I still join if I am part of other extracurriculars?
A: Yes. However, please consider that you are required to attend at least two meetings a week.
Q: I have no experience with robotics - should I still apply if I'm really interested?
A: Absolutely. You are welcome to apply if you have the passion for robotics! We will teach and train you along the way.
Q: Who can apply?
A: All current 6th and 7th graders who intend to attend Schimelpfenig Middle School next year may apply.
Q: Who are the coaches?
A: Ms. May Ko and Mr. Ian Hoke will be the coaches this year.
