This week marked the first week of class at Academy High School!
Students began their project titled “Mirror, Mirror on the Wall”.
Group Activity: Students worked in groups of four to research a person and present their findings to the class.
Presentations were well-prepared and engaging, and it was wonderful to see students confidently share their research.
Distribution Activity: Understanding how data is spread and summarized.
Categorical Displays: Learning to represent data with pie charts, bar graphs, and comparative bar graphs. Students will also explore relative frequency and practice describing categorical data.
Numerical Displays: Exploring ways to visualize numerical data using dot plots, stem-and-leaf plots, histograms, and CUSS (Center, Unusual features, Spread, Shape).
AP Calculus Review Sheet – assigned Thursday, due Monday (graded).
Reminders - Review homework daily to stay prepared.
Did You Know?
A pie chart shows how a whole is divided into parts — though unfortunately, it never comes with actual pie.
A bar graph helps compare categories side by side (no smoothie bar involved).
A dot plot may look like connect-the-dots, but it actually shows the frequency of data.
A histogram summarizes large sets of numbers — no selfies or filters required.
Words of Wisdom - Sloka:
उद्धरेदात्मनाऽत्मानं नात्मानं अवसादयेत्।
आत्मैव ह्यात्मनो बन्धुरात्मैव रिपुरात्मनः।
विद्यां च विज्ञानं च यत्किञ्चिज्जगति लाभ्यते।
स तु सदा सत्कुरु त्वं नित्यं धर्ममार्गेण।
Transliteration:
Uddhared ātmanā'tmānaṁ nātmānaṁ avasādayet.
Ātmaiva hyātmano bandhurātmaiva ripurātmanah.
Vidyāṁ ca vijñānaṁ ca yatkiñcij jagati lābhyate.
Sa tu sadā satkuru tvaṁ nityaṁ dharmamārgeṇa.
Meaning:
Elevate yourself by your own efforts; do not degrade yourself.
The self is one’s own friend, and the self can also be one’s enemy.
Knowledge and wisdom are the most valuable gains in the world.
Always act rightly and follow the path of dharma (righteousness).
