Unit 1: Introduction to Science

See science everywhere! Parents can take opportunities to ask "What would happen if …?" questions or provide opportunities for children to be inquisitive and seek out answers. Children need to know that science isn't just a subject, but it is a way of understanding the world around us, a way of thinking. Maybe in addition to asking what they learned today, ask your child what questions they asked.

Dear Parents,

We will have two upcoming “Matter” assessments. The final assessment will ask higher level questions where the students will have to stretch their brains! Practice asking questions using the following power words: apply, construct, determine, develop, dramatize, draw, exhibit, illustrate, manipulate, modify, operate, organize, prepare, perform, predict, present, produce, respond, select, show, sketch, and solve. The more practice they have answering these types of questions, the more prepared they will be for the final assessments this year in 5th grade science as well as STAAR!
