3rd Year Newsletter
26 September, 2025
Good afternoon Third Year families! We are quickly approaching the end of the first nine weeks here at Academy. Your Learners have been extra busy with their projects for Plan X! Speaking of Plan X ... Plan X’s final project presentations will take place from Monday, October 6, to Thursday, October 9, at Academy High School, between 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM. We are looking for 8 to 12 judges each day to watch presentations from two different groups, each lasting about 20 minutes, and then share their thoughts and feedback with the students.
If you are interested and available, please sign up with this Google Form. A confirmation email will be sent to you once you express interest in being a panelist. We will meet you in the reception area at 10:45 on the day(s) you choose to participate. The commitment is approximately 1.5 hours each day.
We are very proud of our learners and their hard work and we look forward to sharing their final products with you. Thank you for your support of Academy High School and our learners.
This week in Richmond's APUSH classes, students presented their Colonial projects - check out the pictures below for a peek into some of the projects!

We are 6 weeks down, can you believe it? The year is zooming by! This was a busy week for the learners during Project Time. We were blessed with volunteers from Stantec who came in and listened to the ideas of each group and provided feedback on their blueprints to further their project along. In Mrs. Cone's Hands on Friday class, the students learned how to create bouncy balls using borax, cornstarch, glue, and water; ask your learner to show their ball to you. So much fun!
!!!GREAT NEWS!!!
Titan Time mods will start on Monday. *Please* speak with your learner about the clubs and mods they are hoping to join and ensure you have signed the consent form for every single mod they want to join. We want them to be able to have fun each day at school and we can't do that without your help! :)
News for Richmond's APUSH classes:
Don't forget your Colonial projects are due MONDAY and your Period 1 and Period 2 test is on FRIDAY!!!

Happy Friday, Titan Families! The kids have had a busy week working on their blueprints for their extreme environments and let me just say, there are some BOMB designs out there! You should definitely ask your kiddo to show you their work and be prepared to be impressed. They have learned about dimensions, various perspectives to look at their blueprints, and how to correctly use a measuring tape. 😂
REMINDER: Monday, 15 September, will be the last day for retakes/makeup class portraits. If you are in need of having your picture taken for this school year, please be sure to show up and take it on Monday!
We are still in need of volunteers - if you have background (or know someone!) in one of the following areas, please reach out to us:
City Planner
Architect
Homebuilder
Restaurant Management
Agriculture/Farming
City Officials
Hospital Management

Another week down here at Academy! The Third Year Team has loved getting to know your students even better. This week in Project Time, the students found out who their group mates are and which environment and sectors they will be working in for the duration of Project X. We have some fun environmental challenges for them, from floating cities to extreme cold, the rainforest, and extreme altitude.
A few notes:
If you and your learner have not downloaded theTalking Points app, please do so! It's a fantastic and the only way (minus email) for us to communicate with both you and your learner. It's a free app and district supported and makes communication so much easier!
If your learner has not turned in their Safety Contracts those are overdue and need to be brought in ASAP to Mrs Goodwin!
We will be having our first school fundraiser next Tuesday, the 26th at Jason's Deli from 5-9. Please come out and support our school so we can raise money to do all the fun things our students love participating in!
As always, we hope you have a wonderful weekend and don't forget ... we're coming up on our first day off soon (1 September, 2025).

Welcome to the 3rd Year Team! We are so excited to start the year off with your amazing humans as they begin navigating their Junior Year of high school! Before getting started, a few important announcements:
Please bring back safety contracts to Mrs. Goodwin no later than Wednesday, 20 Aug, 2025.
Please purchase and bring to class a pair of safety glasses for the Fab Lab by next Friday, 22 Aug, 2025.
There have been a lot of updates legislatively that we have made the learners aware of this week, so if they seem a bit overwhelmed that's to be expected! Some of the important ones we would like to remind you about are the mobile devices and dress code policy. The learners have done amazing at keeping their cell phones away during the day, but we did want to ensure you are all aware that this includes smart watches and bluetooth headphones. Learners are welcome to wear noise cancelling headphones that have an aux cord to plug in to their chromebooks. Students also must listen to music (at the appropriate times) on their chromebooks (mp3 players, cd players, and walkmen are not allowed). The Plano ISD dress code will be enforced, which means our learners must say goodbye to wearing pajama pants to school. Please ensure both you and your learner read through the Plano ISD student handbook to update yourselves on the dos and don'ts of dress code.
This week, the learners spent Tuesday and Wednesday getting to know their facilitators and working on team building exercises. They transitioned to their normal schedule on Thursday and you can soon expect to hear about all the amazing things they are learning, not to mention our first project of the year, Plan X!
