Subject Description:
The subject, Personal Development, is a breakthrough in the education of the youth. Through the K to 12 curriculum, the student is seen more than just a student but as a human being – an evolving person with his own past, present, and future; with his own emotions and psychological scars; and someone with his own yearnings and dreams for a better future. He is a person with needs and a unique identity and personality. He is a child of the universe who deserves to be loved, respected, and cared for. (Santos 2017)
The course aims to guide the learners in developing their unique identity by understanding the following key concepts: various features of holistic development; skills of middle and late adolescents in preparation for adulthood; mental health and well-being; brain-parts and its processes and functions; types of emotions and how these are expressed; the dynamics of attraction, love, and commitment; social influence, leadership, and followership, the impact of family, career development, life goals, and personal factors influencing career choices.
