The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) is an organization that advocates for and provides information in order to increase the political and economic power of people with disabilities. AAPD also provides a platform through which people with disabilities can find employment.

The Resource Center for Independent Living is a non-profit organization that provides services to that serve to empower persons with disabilities to the maximum extent possible to control their lives and live independently. These services for persons with low-vision or blindness, including orientation and mobility. *Note: The closest office is in Topeka.

Some program eligibility is based upon eligibility for IDD waiver funding

Assisted Transportation is a company that provides ADA and non-ADA transportation to individuals in the Kansas City area. There are a variety of transportation types available, including student and medical transport. You must arrange a ride in advance. There is a fee for each ride.
Eligibility:
Student transport:
Have a documented documented disability or;
Students covered under the McKinney-Vento Act or;
Students living out of district or hard to serve trips
Medical transport must be non-emergency
Speciality transport has a wider range of need

The Arc promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively supports their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes. The Arc's current initiatives include employment, criminal justice, health, and safe travel for persons with disabilities.
The Arc has developed Tech Toolbox. Tech Toolbox is an online catalog of technology resources for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Alphapointe is an organization that promotes independence for persons with low vision or blindness through career development, access to rehabilitation services, and recreational services.

RideKC Freedom is a public transportation service that provides rides within Wyandotte County to people with qualifying disabilities. There are options for ADA and non-ADA accessible transports. This is a curb-to-curb service that must be reserved in advance.
Eligibility:
Must meet qualifying disability standards (verified by a healthcare provider and in-person interview)
Must not be able to appropriately access the fixed (regular) route system

Johnson County Community College's CLEAR (College Learning Experiences, Activities and Resources) program provides non-credit continuing education classes for adults with mild developmental disabilities or other cognitive disabilities. Courses range in topics from apartment living to Star Wars. There is a similar program called Connect that is intended for individuals with mild intellectual disabilities.
Eligibility:
A prospective student must be a Kansas resident and will be expected to meet the following criteria:
Capable of navigating the JCCC campus with minimal assistance (i.e., locating pick-up/drop-off sites, cafeteria, etc.) and changing classes independently.
Able to communicate with others verbally, through sign language or communication device with enough expressive language to advocate for themselves in both routine and unplanned situations (i.e., lost on campus, medical emergency, etc.).
Able to follow instructions.
Able to participate in small group activities.
Able to sit through a one-hour class without assistance.
Able to attend to a specific task independently for a minimum 10-minute period.
Free from behavior that would be disruptive or inappropriate in a classroom.
Able to transport and take medications independently.
Does not require extensive supervision for acute or chronic medical conditions, such as special diets or seizures.
Free of physical or verbal aggression for the past two years.
Free of sexually aggressive or inappropriate behavior for the past two years.
Able to maintain personal self-care and hygiene independently.
No history in the past two years of leaving a pre-arranged area without verbal acknowledgment of the change to staff or a family member.

The Dream Works is a local agency that provides full home health services to aging persons and persons with disabilities. These services include 24/7 in-home care and goal-driven therapies.

The Summit Future Foundation is a local agency that provides support and resources to ensure that people with intellectual disabilities lead a full, meaningful, and independent life through person-centered planning. Services include independent living skill training, social groups, recreational groups, and supported employment.

Must have a documented disability
