Geology Club Constitution
ARTICLE I. NAME
`The name of the said organization shall be the Geology Club of Santa Barbara City College.
ARTICLE II. ORGANIZATION
Section 1. The purpose of the Club will be to promote Geologic study and interest in this field.
Section 2. The Club shall be sponsored by the Santa Barbara City College Earth and Planetary Sciences Department.
ARTICLE III. PURPOSE
Section 1. The purpose of the Geology Club shall be:
To stimulate interest and promote knowledge in the field of geology among the SBCC community.
To provide additional outside the classroom learning opportunities in the field of geology, including off-campus engagements.
To coordinate and facilitate professional development and networking opportunities for students interested in careers in the Earth Sciences.
ARTICLE IV. MEMBERSHIP
Section 1. Basis of Membership:
Eligibility
Membership in the Geology Club of Santa Barbara City College shall be open to any currently enrolled students in good standing.
Continuation of Membership
Any eligible members of the club can continue membership at their own discretion.
Dues
There are no membership fees. However, there may be additional fees associated with optional events to cover expenses.
ARTICLE V. OFFICERS AND THEIR DUTIES
Section 1. The officers of the Geology Club of Santa Barbara City College shall be:
President
Vice President
Secretary-Treasurer
Peer Mentor/Coordinator of Internal Affairs
TBD by current officers
Section 2. Duties
There must be at least one officer present at every club event or activity.
At the first meeting of each semester, an attendance sheet must be completed and submitted to the Office of Student Life.
At the start of each semester, all paperwork to become a recognized club must be completed and submitted to the Office of Student Life.
President – shall preside over meetings of the Executive Board and of the Club. He will also serve as master of ceremonies at the Club’s social events.
Vice President – shall act as president during the absence of the president, and shall contribute to the overall tasks and duties assigned by the group.
Secretary –Treasurer – shall contribute to the overall tasks and duties assigned by the group and handle financial matters concerning the Club.
Peer Mentor-- shall provide advice and support to the executive board, based on past experiences as an officer, and are assigned duties as needed.
Section 3. Term of Office
Officers shall serve for the length of one academic year.
Each elected position has a term limit of one academic year.
Officers may serve consecutive years on the Executive Board by participating in various elected positions.
All officers shall be in good standing and complying with the SBCC Student Code of Conduct in order to remain as an officer of the club at any capacity.
All officers are expected to regularly attend officer meetings and general body meetings in addition to their assigned tasks.
If an officer fails to participate in their role as a Geology Club officer, the Executive Board has the right to replace this officer (See Section 4).
Section 4. Officer Eligibility
Officers are elected from the general Geology Club membership (see Article VII).
They must complete a short training (< 1hour) on SBCC policy and procedures.
In order for elected officers to remain in good standing:
Attend plannary meetings
Complete assigned tasks
Attend club events
All officers shall be in good standing and complying with the SBCC Student Code of Conduct in order to remain as an officer of the club at any capacity.
The Executive Board has the right to replace an officer with a majority vote, and approval from the Faculty Advisor.
Section 5. The Executive Board
The Executive Board shall consist of officers of the club and the faculty advisor(s).
The Executive Board shall meet regularly during the semester.
All actions of the Executive Board shall meet the approval of the faculty advisor.
The Executive Board has the right to appoint honorary non-student advisors as additional mentors and support.
Section 6. Selection of Geology Club Advisors
Advisors shall be a member of the Geology Program within the Earth and Planetary Sciences Department at Santa Barbara City College.
ARTICLE VI. ELECTIONS
Section 1. Election Process
Elections shall be held at the beginning of each academic year.
Officers shall be nominated by the general club members or self-nominated to run for office.
Majority vote by participating members and approval by the Faculty Advisor, shall determine the winners of said elections.
ARTICLE VII. MEETINGS
Section 1: Meeting Schedule
The Geology Club shall hold bi-montly meetings during the academic year. Club meetings that fall on holidays will not be held.
Meetings will be scheduled in observation of SBCC Academic Calendar and SBCC Geologic Field Courses. Meeting schedule must be approved by the Faculty Advisor.
Section 2: Meeting Attendance
Attendance is limited to only active SBCC students, faculty, and staff.
At least one Club Officer must be in attendance at every club meeting.
C. Honorary Advisors may be present at the discretion of the Executive Board and the Faculty Advisor.
D. Non-student invitees must be approved by the Executive Board and/or Faculty Advisor prior to attendance.
ARTICLE VIII. AMENDMENTS
Section 1. Club members shall have the right to petition for amendments to the Club constitution. Club members shall submit
petitions for review and approval by the Executive Board and the Faculty Advisor. Amendments will be approved by
the majority vote of the Executive Board and approval by the Faculty Advisor. All approved amendments will be
written into the club constitution and take effect immediately.
