the Creative Writing Program
at Santa Barbara City College
The program is housed in SBCC's Department of English - Literature and Creative Writing Classes. Courses are taught by members of the English and Journalism Departments.
As an article in The Independent highlighted, we encourage both beginning and experienced writers to become part of the program. We offer an experienced faculty, a robust Visiting Writing Series and--for students enrolled at least half-time at SBCC--the opportunity to compete in the prestigious Emmons Poetry Contest.
The Dylan Willson Essay Contest is held in the Spring Semester of the Academic Year.

Whether you're interested in taking a single class, or completing our Creative Writing Certificate, we're happy to have you at SBCC.
If you have questions, please email program director David Starkey.
Note: New York Times columnist Margaret Renkl is on Zoom on Monday, March 8, from 6-7 p.m. Pacific time. The program is free and open to all. Pre-registration is required.
