The traditional schools try to persuade the public that charter schools are "taking their money." Nothing could be further from the truth. The article to the left was written in response to HB 539 and the attacks that traditional school systems launched to defeat fair funding for PUBLIC charter schools in this state.
Please read and decide for yourself if PUBLIC charter schools are being funded fairly in this state.
Also ask yourself, where does that extra percentage go?
The chart on the left shows the percentages of local funds that actually follow the child to the PUBLIC charter schools. Please note the extremely low percentage in Cleveland County.
A full 37% of the local funds allocated per child through various means of taxation do NOT follow the child to the PUBLIC charter school.
This results is funding above the per-child amount for traditional school systems. In what world is that logical, equitable, or even fair?
