If your child is currently in one of my intervention groups we are working on fluency.  We have been working on increasing our correct words per minute while practicing pace, pausing at punctuation, and reading with expression.

Students have began graphing their progress.  To give you an idea of what your child should be striving for 4th grade students should be reading ~95-100 correct words per minute and 5th grade students should be reading ~120-140 correct words per minute at the beginning of the school year.

The best way to help you child at home is to provide students the opportunity to hear, read, and reread text aloud.  You can model reading the text well.  When students hear texts read expressively they begin to read expressively, even when reading silently which helps them to become better readers.

I will be adding resources here throughout the year so feel free to check back often!
