Grading Policy
Tests 50%, Quizzes 20%, Classwork/Homework 30%
A Comprehensive Final Exam 15%
Grades will be regularly entered into PowerSchool. Please let me know if you do not have access to PowerSchool and I will notify Mrs. Deaton. Progress Reports will be sent home halfway through each quarter.
Tests: Tests will be announced at least 3 days before the test date, and test questions will be taken from student notes and handouts; therefore, it is very important that students take clear and organized notes.
Quizzes: Quizzes may be announced or unannounced. Unannounced quizzes will cover material from the previous day’s notes.
Assignments: Classwork includes: worksheets (graded for accuracy), class activities (graded for accuracy/participation), homework, and warm-ups/exit tickets.
Late Work
Assignments that are not submitted by the due date will be counted as late. There will be a 10% penalty for each day an assignment is late up to five days. A zero will be entered for assignments turned in after five days.
If a student is absent, he/she will receive one additional day per day absent to submit assignments. Tests/quizzes must be made up within five days. Students must make arrangements with Miss Horton to schedule time to take missed tests/quizzes after school.
Newsletters
All newsletters, weekly reminders, etc.… will be sent electronically to parents. If you prefer a paper copy please contact your student’s homeroom teacher.
Class Rules/Expectations:
No eating in the classroom and no gum!
You may have water preferably in a clear plastic bottle with a lid. Please, no drinks other than water.
If possible, please go to the restroom at the beginning of class.
Leave excuses (and DRAMA) at the door.
If you didn’t do your homework, just admit it.
If you didn’t understand the assignment, ask for help. Don’t wait until the assignment is due – see me during homeroom or lunch, or send me an email (before 6:00 pm, please!)
If you didn’t study for the test, accept the grade and resolve to do better (with my help if necessary) next time.
Cheating and plagiarism -
Cheating is to act dishonestly by claiming the work of someone else as your own, or by enabling or permitting another student to claim your work as their own, or by obtaining for yourself or providing for another student an unfair advantage on a test, quiz, or any other academic work. Cheating may include, but not be limited to, the following acts:
1. Allowing someone to copy your work
2. Claiming someone else’s work as your own
3. Having or providing knowledge of questions or answers prior to a test or quiz
4. Giving or receiving assistance during a test
5. Using artificial intelligence (AI) software in any manner not explicitly permitted or authorized by a classroom teacher, including but not limited to completing an academic assignment with the assistance of AI software when not permitted, or misrepresenting a portion of the whole of an academic assignment as your own without proper attribution or acknowledgment of the use of AI software.
6. Summarizing or paraphrasing reference material without citing the original source.
using AI software and any manner not explicitly permitted or authorized by the classroom teacher, including but not limited to submitting academic work created or written in part or in whole by AI software and claiming it as your own.
Consequences
We will follow the student code of conduct which can be found on our school website. Cheating is not tolerated in this classroom. Wandering eyes, talking, etc. during a test or quiz will be considered cheating. This will result in a zero and may not be made up. Work avoidance, failing to do the work during class will result in students being required to do the work during lunch or at home.
