Week of October 27-31
Letterland:
This week students will learn the sound and letter shapes for Noisy Nick and Golden Girl. We will continue to review the sounds previously taught, as well as blending sounds together to form words. Students will begin reading from our “Kit” readers.
Heart Words:
Please take a few minutes each evening to review the following four heart words (sight words) with your child:
at, on, in, am
Students will be given four new “heart” words each week. We will be assessing their recognition of these words every Friday. To make practice more fun and effective, we encourage your child to cut out the words that will be sent home and use them as flashcards.
Listening & Learning:
This week we will review and complete our unit on Continents. Our Continent Assessment will be on Thursday, October 30th. Students will be expected to identify each continent on a map, as well as a plant, structure and animal that is important to each continent. Please use the study guide that was sent home to help your child locate each continent.
Continent Projects are due on Friday, October 31st.
Ready Math:
We will complete Unit 2: Numbers 6-9.
This week students will use drawings and 10-frames to explore the various ways to make 8 and 9. Our Unit 2 Math Test will be on Thursday, October 30th.

Spook-tacular” Fall Class Party
Our class will be enjoying a special lunch time party and treats on Friday, October 31st. A sign-up up has been sent out for items that will be needed. If you sign up to bring an item, please send all items in by Thursday, October 30th. Your child WILL NOT need to bring a lunch on this day. Please send a snack/water bottle as usual.
Thank you so much for your continued support of all we do here at PCA!
Important Information
MORNING SNACK: In order to help students avoid confusing lunch and snack items, please place a morning snack in the small front zipper pocket of your child’s backpack (instead of in his/her lunchbox with lunch items). Please show your child where to find his/her morning snack.
We have also found that reusable water bottles are less likely to spill and much easier for your child to identify. Please send a labeled reusable water bottle with your child each day!
Uniform Reminders
Student uniforms (other than scooters and dresses) require a solid black belt (or the approved plaid belt for girls). Please remind and practice the following steps with your child:
1. After using the bathroom, TUCK the shirt into your shorts/pants first.
2. Zip and button shorts/pants after tucking the shirt in all the way around.
3. Buckle your belt last. Thank you so much for your support!
