I know starting your own project can seem intimidating, and may seem like a lot of work. It is! But it's all for a great cause!
Some things I recommend is making a checklist! A checklist is a great way to throw your ideas onto paper, see what is possible and what may take more effort to achieve, set dead lines and dates, and start working!
Another thing I recommend is taking it in slow, small chunks. Looking at the project from the outside becomes intimidating, and can cause doubt. Don't Worry! Just take baby steps. How do you make a sandwich? You don't just magically get bread, jelly, and peanut butter. You first have to walk to the cabinet, bend down, open the door, grab the loaf, stand up, shut the cabinet, and place the bread on a nearby surface. While it may look like a lot of steps, they are all small, easy, and make you feel accomplished! Boosting your serotonin helps keep you motivated and ready to keep pushing forward!
No matter how hard it gets, I promise it is all worth it in the end!
Go Gold!
I originally started my proposal in early April of 2025, and it wasn't submitted until early July that same year. There is no rush! The more time you take, the happier you will be with the out come!
I made 3D models of my box, estimated prices, and got confirmation from locations that if the proposal was to be accepted, I knew I had places I could work with. I also created a slideshow with my proposal as well as the form you have to fill out! I personally feel that the slideshow helped keep things organized but also entertaining.
The day the box was put out I was able to connect with my community the pet store. Many people who helped this project come together came around and I was able to speak about this opportunity and talk with animal lovers in the community about my project! I created and handed out pamphlets and explained my project to adults!
Through a program called PALS at my school, I was able to connect with some elementary school kids, and high school kids to help spread awareness! I was able to explain to the high schools what my project was and see them share that information with the elementary students! Seeing this was amazing and I hope that the word continues to spread!
To help with the donation bags, and getting the kids involved with their community, We all made thank you cards and decorated bags so the welcome gifts can be given to their new owners in style and have a beautiful thank you to go along with it!

The progress is posted here and shows how I went about this project!
Over the course of many days, from cutting the wood, putting it together, and painting it, I accumulated many long videos, so here is the timelapse without my voice! :)
As I went through the process of making this box, one main problem would be stability. While this box will last a while, everything eventually needs repair. To counteract this, by creating a manual and working with my school's Student Council. By providing the group with a manual of how the box was built I was able to make sure that If certain sections needed repairs, they knew how it was built and what materials would be necessary to fix it!
This pamphlet has a brief explanation on many things, including what the project is, what a gold award is, and good donation items!

Thank you Home Depot for Donating the supplies for the box's creation! This couldn't have been done without you!
Thank you to my fellow troop members! Throughout this process, despite it being long, you gave me the encouragement I needed to see this through and keep going! Thank you!
Thank you to my friends! Especially Tiffany, I suck with social media and she helped me out with some ideas and helped me figure out highlights on Instagram. Thank you!
Thank you to my parents, despite this being a long and event full process, its done! Your garage is free for use again!
Thank you Paula! Thank you for letting me help out all the pets you look after, and thank you for being the light in these small creatures lives. While we may not have them in our lives forever, we are their everything, so thank you for giving these animals the life they deserve and being their everything and more! Good luck with the shelter and I wish you a bright and happy future!
And thank YOU! This project wouldn't have been possible to complete without the support of the community! Never stop dreaming, if you have an idea, implement it!
