Description: In this project, we had to design and create a bar of soap for someone important in our life. We got to choose what to make our soap look like, and along with it we had a catchy phrase that relates to the soap and explains the design choice. The requirements were that the base of the soap had to be 1.5 inches tall and 3 inches wide.
Brainstorm: I chose to make my soap for my dance friend, and I decided to make a bee with the phrase, "You are un-bee-lievably great!" I started by sketching out the bee using simple shapes that I would be able to recreate in Fusion 360.

Procedure: I used Fusion 360 to CAD my soap project. First I imported my sketch into the platform. Then, I used the splice tool to trace my drawing and extruded it. After that I edited some of the layers so that they weren't all at the same level. I also made the edges of the bee rounder. Finally, I fixed the sizing until I was happy with it and added my text around my base. I printed my prototype using a 3-D printer and then printed my final project.
This is the sketch I made using the splice tool.
This is what my project looked like after extruding and editing it.
This is Prototype 1. I wanted to change the levels of the wing and the stinger so that they would show up more, and I rounded out the edges and added my words.
This is my revised sketch of my project on Fusion 360 - with rounded edges and different heights of layers.
This is the 3-D printed version of my final project.
Procedure Part 2 - Mold and Soap: After I printed my final project that I was happy with, I mixed and used a silicone mixture to create a mold around my 3-D design. Then, I waited for it to cure and harden into a firm and flexible material. Using the mold, I made my bar of soap.
This is my mold directly after I molded it around my 3-D printed project.
This is my mold after it completely dried. It had a couple of holes on the top and sides, so I patched them up and used a blow dryer to cure them.
This a picture from when I poured soap into my mold. I added food coloring to make it pink and added a lemon scent. Lastly, I sprayed alcohol on the top to get rid of air bubbles.
This is my soap after it was completly dried. I took it out of the mold and realized that there was some extra soap on the sides, so I scraped it off with a blade.
This is my final soap!
Reflection:
S - Strength: I think that my strength was that I worked efficiently and was on task. Because of this, I was able to finish my project on time. I was also able to navigate through Fusion 360 and edit whatever needed to be changed. For example, I edited my layers and resized my images easily.
O - Opportunities: Something I could have done to improve my project is being more careful with making my mold. My mold was an essential part of making the soap. However, my completed mold had a couple of dents and holes on the inside. Next time, I will make sure to press out all the air bubbles when using silicone mold mixtures.
U - Understanding: Something I learned during this project was how to use Fusion 360 better. I learned how to use the spice tool, the extrude tool, and the text tool. I also learned how to export my finished project from Fusion 360 to Bambu Studio so I could 3-D print it.
L - Limitations: A limitation that I encountered during this project was how to fit my slogan onto my project. When I tried to fit my original text on my project, it was too long. However, I was able to shorten my text so that it fit perfectly!
WISCR: Two traits that I demonstrated during this project in WISCR were: S - Self-Motivated, and I - Insightful and Critical Thinkers. I think I showed being Self-Motivated because I was constantly improving my design and taking suggestions on what to fix. I showed being an Insightful and Critical Thinker because I made sure that the size of my project was correct before printing my first prototype, so that I wouldn't have to reprint it. This made it so that I was able to print my final project after only one prototype.
