Library cards will be sent to the librarians in each building. Librarians will coordinate with the building principals to plan the best way to distribute the library cards and accompanying letters. Distribution will happen May 10- 18, 2023.
At each K-3 primary building students will receive their new library cards during their weekly library class. Distribution and instruction on how to use the new cards along with all of the available resources will take place in May.
At Eden Hall the students will receive their library cards and letters from their homeroom teachers during a weekly biome meeting, exact dates to be determined. Students will receive instruction on how to use their library cards during library class or through a video tutorial.
At PRMS, students will receive their cards in ELA classes in mid-May, when they will learn from the librarian about the resources available to them.
At PRHS, each core English class will visit the library in May to receive their library cards and learn how to make the most of the resources available from Northern Tier and our partnership through the Pine Center branch available Monday-Thursday after school.
Parent/guardians were given the opportunity to opt out of this student library card project. If a student was opted out, they would not be a part of this project.
The student data from PRSD was received in mid-Feb. There may be some inaccuracies because of updates to student information.
Their might have been a mistake. This project has a lot of moving parts and there are several places where errors could be made.
Please encourage the student to ask their parent/caregiver if they can get a library card. If it’s okay with a student’s parent/caregiver, please reach out to Northern Tier Library and they will create a new account or issue a new physical library card if the student already has an account.
If a student already had a library card, the new card has been linked to the previously existing account. Either card will work at our libraries.
The Personal Identification Number (PIN) for your library card is the month and day of your birthday written as a four digit number (MMDD). You can change the PIN by visiting the library in person or calling the library at 724-449-2665. If for some reason your PIN does not work please contact Northern Tier Library.
Your PIN number is used as a password for the online library catalog. With it, you can place holds on books, movies, music, and most anything else you can find in the catalog.
Some students had fees on their accounts. Many of these previously accrued fines were waived. This supports Northern Tier's goal of providing students with access to our public libraries. Some accounts with significant fines may still have those fines assessed. They are asking students and/or their families to contact Northern Tier Library to review their accounts in these cases. Moving forward, account holders will be responsible for the timely return of materials.

Thanks to Pine-Richland partnership with Northern Tier Regional Library, we created 3,117 new library cards for your students! We also identified 1354 PRSD students who already have library cards. For all of these 4,471 students, we will be giving out new physical library cards. In the case of the students who already have an account, we are giving them a new card as a courtesy, and both this new card and their original card are attached to their library account and will work at our libraries.
