Mrs. Tronetti encouraged Project-Based Learning where students developed a solution for a real-world project with a superhero power. They planned their design, problem-solved challenges that jeopardized their structure, and used a team-building approach.
Mr. Boyd taught this group how to emboss and deboss aluminum metal and roll & apply strips of paper to create a 3d sculpture (quilling). The goal is to display these pieces in the piano lab for the music department.
Per request, these sculptures will be donated to the Special Education Services at Richland Elementary at the end of the year.

1st session: Students were divided into 2 main groups (ram & butterfly). They were split into smaller groups to construct specific parts of their sculpture using paper, tape, cardboard, PVC pipe, and/or cardboard tubes. Once each piece was completed, the pieces were assembled by the art teachers for stability. Students then covered their sculptures with Celluclay to create more stability and a smooth surface for paint.
2nd session: Students were divided into 2 groups where they individually planned a design for their sculpture. The ram needed to incorporate a puzzle piece to symbolize autism. The butterfly needed to showcase the colors blue and yellow since the butterfly and those colors symbolize down syndrome. They put their designs together to finalize a group design that incorporated something from each student's individual idea. This group primed & then painted their designs.
