I know your other teachers may have given you a list of rules about email etiquette a.k.a. (The Do's and Don'ts of Emails). However, I have some very specific requests for emails from the students.
I know your other teachers may have given you a list of rules about email etiquette a.k.a. (The Do's and Don'ts of Emails). However, I have some very specific requests for emails from the students.
- I would prefer that the students advocate for themselves. (Students: If you have a problem with the grading, coursework, or other aspects of the class, feel free to email me, yourself. I am just as likely to do something for you, as I would for your parent/guardian. However, if you have emailed me and I did not respond to your email in a timely manner, you should feel free to have your parents email me. I usually respond within 24 hours to all of my emails.)
(Note: This does not mean that a parent is not welcome to email me and ask me questions. I am just trying to get the students ready for the real world and preparing them to communicate their questions or concerns.) - Write a very brief description in the subject line. For example: "Homework 3-2 is marked missing." or "I am having trouble understanding Homework 2-5".
In the body of email you can go into more detail. - Start the email with a greeting, such as "Good Morning".
- End with a "Thank You" or other appropriate ending to a letter.
- You should also end the message with your First and Last Name.
- You do not need to be argumentative or accusatory while writing your concerns. In the body of your email, start by typing your name and describe your concerns or the problems your are having. Show some manners by describing your problems or concerns in a calm tone and explaining the proper steps that you are taking to rectify your situation.
- Do not "yell' at your teacher in all capital letters. Just like text messages, it is hard to interpret tone, so many people will think you are yelling when it is in all capital letters.
(Note: An email is not a text message. It is not as informal as a text message.)
