What is color guard?
Color guard is a performing ensemble that combines dance, choreography, and the manipulation of equipment such as flags, rifles, and sabers. These ensembles typically perform alongside a marching band, adding a visual element through choreographed routines. Color guard performs at events like football games, competitions, pep rallys, and other school events. MS color guards learn the basics of color guard and perform throughout school year at Winter Guard competitions, parades, and at school events. HS color guards build on basic color guard principles and perform more heavily throughout the school year. They perform alongside the Pinecrest Cadence Marching Band at competitions, in Winter Guard competitions, parades, and school events. For more information or any further questions, please see the Color Guard Website
What grade can I start color guard?
Students can start participating in color guard as early as 6th grade. We do not currently offer an official Conservatory color guard class for elementary school students, but we DO offer "Color Guard Club" for 4th-5th
This depends on what you're interested in. Take some time to explore the "Your Options" page to get to know what you can expect from each program. Once you find something that interests you, fill out the interest form located at the bottom of the page. This will let our conservatory directors know you're interested, and they will place you into the appropriate class. If you are a high school student that already plays an instrument and are interested in joining an ensemble, please contact Mr. Purdy or Ms. Reveyrand. However, if you are interested in joining as an 8th grade or HS student, please contact the director of the program you are interested in - as these are handled on a case-by-case basis and require an audition for admission.
