About

A dream-like serenity pervades Nancy Lawton’s contemplative drawings. Lawton works in the rare technique of silverpoint, a method of drawing with a thin silver wire on gessoed paper, popular during the Renaissance in Europe. Exploiting the subtleties of the medium, Lawton deftly creates delicate botanical studies and portraits. The artists also works with graphite and acrylic to enhance the dramatic and expressive tonal range. Inviting the viewer closer in for inspection, each vein of a leaf, line in a face, or inflection in the curve of a petal is caught by her keen sense of detail.
