Twenty-first century education should be outcome-based, leading to the development of critical core competencies such as collaboration, digital literacy, critical thinking, problem solving and self-learning. The responsibility of a technical institute is to create and sustain a community of learning in which students acquire knowledge and learn to apply it professionally with due consideration for ethical, ecological, and economic issues. The responsibility of the faculty members in achieving these goals is paramount.

Rajasthan is geographically the largest state of India, and has a large network of higher education institutions spread over its 32 districts. The government is taking a great deal of effort to foster growth and development of educational facilities and improve the faculty resources. Toward the latter goal, faculty development programmes (FDPs) should serve as refresher programmes and also focus on how the prescribed course material is to be delivered to students in an outcome-based manner. In this context, BITS Pilani offers its services for the TEQIP III programme.

BITS has the reputation of providing high quality technical education to students from all over the country, with its graduates performing successfully in their chosen areas of engineering, science, management and finance. The Teaching Learning Centre at BITS Pilani proposes to conduct short-term training programmes on effective teaching for faculty members of various colleges and universities in Rajasthan. The proposed faculty development programme equips the teachers with the tools and techniques for effective teaching and training through lectures and practicum, using "Shikshan", a pedagogy framework tool developed and successfully implemented by IIT Kharagpur under the aegis of MHRD, Government of India. The programme enables the teacher to align the goals of the course curriculum with the guidelines laid down by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA).

On successful completion of the workshop, and with sufficient institutional encouragement and support, the participants will be able to undertake and complete the following tasks:

Plan an outcome-based curriculum to meet NBA and Washington Accord requirements.

Identify and develop appropriate outcome-based course, module and unit objectives of their courses based on taxonomy-based pedagogy.

Implement evidence-based pedagogical strategies and approaches (e.g., active learning, collaborative learning) in the classroom to maximize student learning and engagement.

Design and develop appropriate assessments for all outcome-based objectives for both Summative and Formative evaluation.

Judiciously utilize technology (e.g. LMS) in the classroom for teaching and assessment.
