The Guidance department

"We are no longer "guidance counselors', focused on graduation and courseselection for students. We are professional school counselors who focus on the academic success, college and career readiness, and social-emotional development of all students."

I received my bachelor's in 2016 from Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama in Social Science and Secondary Education. Additionally, I received my master's degree in Professional School Counseling from the University of West Alabama in 2020. This will be my eighth  year in education and I am just as excited as I were back when I first begin my teaching tenure. COVID-19 has devastated and changed a number of lives, but it has also shown us one thing: we have to be open to change and be able to adapt to the circumstances that we are given. I plan to assist our students with this transformation in order for them to understand the importance of their physical, social and emotional well-being.

On a personal note, I enjoy spending time with friends on the weekend, unless I am watching a good Netflix movie. To add, I have three god-children, two nephews, and one niece that I adore, but I am sure my bank account would not say the same. I love being in the company of people with good spirits and positive attitudes!

This is my 8th year here at Pike Road Elementary School.  My first year, I was a Community 2 Lead Learner and this is my 7th year as the elementary school counselor.  This is my 29 year of education.  Before coming to Pike Road, I worked in the Auburn City Schools System as a teacher having taught 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades for 7 years before becoming a counselor there the last of my 10 years.  Prior to that, I worked in Russell County for 4 years and taught 1st and 4th grades.  My first educational experience was as a PE aide with Opelika City Schools.

I have 4 children, one of which (Mark) took the short road to heaven in a fatal car accident in August of 2019 right before school started.  My other three children are Matthew (Ashley) with 2 little boys, Lauren (Hunter) with 1 little girl and John is  a learner at PRHS.  My husband, Wade and I have been married for 31 years and we live in Auburn.  We have 2 dogs (Cocker Spaniels) Hunter and Willow.
