Mrs. Bangert's Class Page

Dear junior high band members and parents,

I hope everyone had a great summer!  I am very excited to get the junior high band started and looking forward to continuing the tradition of high quality of music at Pikeland Community School.  This is a quick overview of what is expected as a member of the junior high band.  Student and parent should sign and return the attached form by Tuesday, August 22, 2023.

Students will receive a grade in band based on attendance and participation.  The point system is as follows:

a.

September 2, 2023 - Pittsfield Fall Festival

b.

September 16, 2023 - Griggsville Apple Festival

c.

September 23, 2023 - Milton Corn Carnival

Performances are important grades for the student.

If a student misses a performance, he or she may fail band.

Classroom rules:

Be Respectful

Be Responsible

Be Ready

A positive classroom atmosphere is always the goal and provides a rewarding experience for all. Consequences of bad behavior are: warning, conference with teacher/administrator, contacting parent, or a detention--not necessarily in that order, depending on offense.

Page Break

Student Dress:

Students are required to wear the band polo and red jacket for parades/performances.  Students will need to provide black pants, black socks and black shoes.  The red band jackets will need to be dry cleaned and returned to school in the dry cleaner bag with the ticket attached after the final parade.  The polo shirt will need to be returned after the spring concert in May.  Students should not eat or drink anything other than water while wearing the shirts.  Please wash polo shirts with cold water only and do not use bleach.  There will be a $25 fee to replace damaged shirts.

Materials:

We will be using the Winning Rhythms and Tradition of Excellence Blue Book from last year.  Please contact Mrs. Bangert if you need a replacement.  Also, it is time to purchase any other supplies that the students may need, such as reeds, cork grease, or valve oil.  Clarinet and saxophone players must have at least two working reeds at all times.  The band store will only be open before or after school.  Students will not be able to purchase supplies during class.

The junior high band also has a website https://sites.google.com/pikeland.org/pcs-band/home

I will keep that site updated with weekly check-offs and other assignments and dates.  I hope this letter answers all of your questions about the junior high band.  If you do have a question, feel free to call me at school, cell, or send a message through the Pikeland app. My cell number is (217)440-4049.

With your help, this year will be the best for the Pikeland Unit 10 School Music Department.

Yours behind the baton,
