A continuous and consistent learning environment is best for student success. However, we understand that parents and students might have compelling reasons to seek a transition from one option to another, so we will provide opportunities to do so when available. For the sake of continuity, once an option has started, transfers from one learning option to another would be best after the completion of a 9 week grading term or semester.
Yes, online students are expected to make a daily commitment to learning. While learning times are flexible, students and families should understand that students should participate in virtual learning 5 days each week. When the traditional school model is not in session Pike County Virtual Academy K-8 students will NOT be expected to complete work online. Below is the link to the Pike County School calendar.
A desktop, laptop, or Chromebook will be required and an internet connection will be necessary at home. Families needing support should reach out to their assigned school for information on obtaining assistance for technology needs.
Students have flexibility on when they complete their work. There are due dates for units each nine weeks. You can find these due dates in the Resources section.
Due to the Pike County Virtual Academy 9-12 being a public school choice, students must participate in all required state assessments. Students will be required to report to their home school campus for State Assessments.
The Pike County Virtual Academy 9-12 will accommodate students with special needs through their Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) or 504 Plans. When a student is accepted into the program, an ARC will convene to update their IEP or 504 Plan. Students will be tracked/monitored by an assigned special education teacher at the school of enrollment.
YES - meal opportunities will continue for the Pike County Virtual Academy 9-12 students for both breakfast and lunch. Families will be able to pick up from various locations on an identified schedule. Additional information will be available soon.
Students will have the flexibility and can "catch up" on their course work. If the student will have an extended absence, the Pike County Virtual Academy 9-12 staff should be notified in advance.
