(A Rationale for Global Education, David Hicks)
Globally competent students understand that the world is a system in which their actions, as well as the actions of nations, have consequences across the globe. They see the interconnectedness of humans with the landscape and environment; they understand why people settle and live where they do; they are attuned to their local economy and understand how it is affected by global economic forces; they see history as an ongoing story with many threads, rather than a series of unconnected events; they are aware of the big questions doctors, scientists, and policymakers are trying to answer and recognize the forces that impede or accelerate progress; and they are attuned to the differences as well as they similarities of cultures.
