Bio: Jess J. R. Hicks, Special Education Teacher
Pickens County High School-May 2004; College and Tech Prep Dual Seal Diploma
Kennesaw State University-December 2008; Bachelor of Science in History Education
I am honored to be a part of the Pickens County School System. I have spent my entire life in Pickens County and graduated from Pickens High School. While in high school, I was heavily involved in the Special Olympic Partners Club. My experiences include chaperoning Special Olympic Athletes at State Special Olympics, being a partner in our own local Olympics, and earning my certification as a coach for Special Olympic Soccer. Also in high school, I filmed three seasons of basketball games and two seasons of football games.
After graduating from Pickens High School, I attended Kennesaw State University. At Kennesaw, I went into the education program. I did my TOSS (teaching of specific subjects) at Creekland Middle School, were I taught 6th grade Social Studies. I did my student teaching at Cherokee High School, were I taught 10th-12th grade American Government and 12th grade Economics.
As I was going through school, I worked as a custodian for Pickens County School System. I continued to work as a custodian at Hill City Elementary School until I was hired to work at Pickens High School as a paraprofessional.
I have had many different educational and career experiences that I am looking forward to using in the classroom to reach all of Pickens County's students.
