You can view the bell schedule here.
In general, your day will follow this schedule:
1st Period
2nd Period
Flex Time
3rd Period (lunch is with your 3rd period class)
4th Period
Doors open at 8:10am. The school day begins at 8:40am.
When you arrive at the school, you may get breakfast in the cafeteria, then report directly to first period.
You can use the time before school to complete tasks such as turn in notes to the attendance office, visit the media center, see your school counselor, drop off things in the locker room, or get breakfast. Students are not to roam the hallways before school starts.
Morning Career Center students will report to the bus loop by 8:40am to get on the bus to the Career Center. You will return to PHS in time to go to third period.
Afternoon Career Center students will go to lunch directly after Flex Time. Eat lunch and promptly report to the bus loop for the Career Center bus. You will return to PHS in time for dismissal.
You have five minutes between each class. This is plenty of time to get to any point in the high school. There is a main staircase and rear staircases to help you quickly get between floors.
Please take a look at the school map on the "PHS School Info" page if you'd like to plan out your route.
If you have mobility concerns, please speak with the school nurse or your counselor.
Lunch is eaten by 3rd period classes. We will have multiple lunch periods; your third period teacher will tell you which lunch period you report to.
School dismisses at 3:30pm. When the bell rings, promptly report to either the car rider area or bus loop.
There is not a "9th Grade Supply List" because everyone is taking different courses. Some teachers may want you to have certain supplies, but this is usually for specialty classes. Your teachers will give you a syllabus on the first day that outlines what materials you need or how to organize your notebooks.
Stock up on what you personally need to stay organized. You can't go wrong with the following basic items:
A binder for each core class (one-inch or half-inch) and filler paper.
Dividers (you'll need to separate bellringers, notes, and assignments in each binder) - Hole-punched construction paper makes great dividers in a pinch!
A planner, binder, or notebook to keep track of assignments
One of the biggest issues Freshmen have is remembering assignments. Make sure you write down everything that you have coming up each day. Some students use an app for this instead of a notebook. The best planner is the one you actually use!
Pens, pencils, colored pencils, and highlighters
Notecards (for flash cards)
We do not have lockers at Pickens High School.
You will only need materials for up to 4 classes each day, and much of what you do will be on your Chromebook.
