Students can walk in anytime to the Wellness Center, or be referred by a peer, teacher, or even a parent for a basic “wellness break.” Students can use the center as a reset of sorts, where they can decompress and talk through a challenging day or experience before returning to class to learn. Wellness Center staff can help provide the student with social-emotional support, and help them learn additional tools so that they can be successful in the classroom.
The Wellness Center is not a space to hang out to get out of class. The goal is to not take the student out of the classroom, but to provide them with support, so that they can stay in class. We recognize that things happen in the day that are challenging and may make it difficult to listen in class. Students may need an opportunity to decompress and then return to class. Students utilizing the Wellness Center can complete a puzzle, use kinetic sand, draw a picture, read a book, do yoga, etc.
We also will work with students and their teachers regarding topics that the students may need additional support with and the liaison can do a presentation for the students. Liaisons may also refer students for other Wellness Support.
The Center has resources available for families that may need additional support. Or you may search through the plethora of resources available under the “Community Resources” tab.
