Activities completed In-Class cannot be made-up. If you miss class, you will miss the points for that activity.
If you miss a class and attend asynchronously, you have 24 hours to complete the In-Class activity.
Completing work on time is important to learning. You should make every effort to submit work before or on the due date.
If you cannot submit on the due date, you will have 2 weeks to submit late work with a 30% deduction. After 2 weeks, no late work will be accepted.
You must complete the modules in sequential order. In other words, you cannot complete work in Module 1 unless you have comleted Module 0, etc.
If you have not completed any work in the course for more than three weeks, you will be withdrawn from the course.
A-this grade will allow you to move on to ENG101 next semester and bypass RDG100. A student who earns an "A" in this course will be expected to meet the course competencies at a very high academic level. You will have satisfied the Reading pre-requisite for CRE101 and can take that course after meeting the ENG101 pre-requisite.
B-this grade will allow you to move on to ENG101 next semester and bypass RDG100. A student who earns a "B" in this course will be expected to meet the course competencies and perform at a strong academic level. You will have satisfied the Reading pre-requisite for CRE101 and can take that course after meeting the ENG101 pre-requisite.
C- this grade will allow you to move on to ENG101 next semester with a 1-unit support course, plus RDG100LL. A student who earns a "C" in this course has met or approached meeting most of the course competencies, but will get additional support in their ENG101 and RDG100 courses in the next semester.
D-this grade requires you to repeat ALT100. A student who earns a "D" in this course has not met the course competencies. The instructor may have insufficient evidence of meeting the competencies (missing assessments).
F-this grade requires you to repeat ALT100. A student who earns an "F" in this course has not given the instructor sufficient evidence of meeting any of the course competencies. In addition, an "F" may reflect academic misconduct issues, such as plagiarism, that are in direct opposition to our course competencies regarding citations, summarization, and paraphrasing.
ALT 100 is a course that is designed with the purpose of teaching you active reading strategies and academic writing that you can use in all of your college courses throughout your entire college career. Of course, all of the assignments are important, and all of the assignments build on each other; however, it is important to take note of the percentage weights. In the course, most of your grade will be based on Reading Strategies (40%) and Academic Writing (40%). These two categories are a major part of showing mastery of the content. In helping you master the content, it is also important that you learn and show understanding and mastery of the skills you need for active reading and academic writing.
Assignments will be given with feedback and you will have multiple attempts to show your understanding of reading and writing at the academic level.
If ever you have questions, please let me know. This is YOUR class and YOUR grade!
