When the Women’s Motorcycling World Championship was announced in June last year, one of the women on stage at the presentation said  “In my opinion, there has always been women competing against men. But it's true that in that period of time, no one has reached the top of the category, MotoGP or Superbike. Why? It's like this because women and men are different, physically different.” It was in that moment that I thought to myself, “F*ck it. Let’s do it.” 

I walked out of the press conference room, into the media centre, turned to the other journalists facing me and simply said “I’m going to have a team in this championship, you just watch me”. They all laughed, full well knowing that I was so full of conviction that there was no other option. I had to do it. And with a little help along the way, we did it. 

Let me ask you, do you actually care that we’re women? Or do you just want to watch really good motorcycle racing? Because that is exactly what this championship is. That is exactly what Sekhmet is. Once the visor is down, nothing else should matter. 

Enter Sekhmet International Motorcycle Racing Team. We do things differently, because we can. The team epitomises drive, determination, bravery and single-minded resilience (some self reflection in that). And, we’re nothing without our athletes, our staff, and our network of friends and supporters. 

We have a lot to prove, and I’m okay with that. We’ve made it this far and there’s a 100% chance that anything could happen. We’re just getting started.
