Effective Strategies for Technology Integration:
Grades 9-12 Science
Strategies to Promote Student Engagement
Interacting with PhET
Using PhET interactive simulations, students investigate how environmental factors affect population growth.
See example HERE.
Digital Graphic Organizers
Systems and System Models (e.g., physical, mathematical, computer models) can be used to simulate systems and interactions — including energy, matter, and information flows — within and between systems at different scales.
See Graphic Organizers HERE.
Digital Lab
Students will work in pairs or small groups to explore & analyze scientific concepts via online digital lab simulations in order to build understanding.
Strategies to Promote Discussion and Collaboration
Analyzing Content
Students will analyze how different nutrients affect the chemistry of metabolism using collaborative features in Google Slides such as comments and suggesting to collaborate in their research and analysis.
Collaborating in a Google Doc
Students will collaborate with peers using a Google Slide or Doc to make note-taking and assessments interactive and collaborative.
Whole Class & Small Group Review
Students will review concepts necessary for success on the Biology Keystone.
See example HERE.
Strategies to Promote Higher-Order Thinking
Design Solutions
Students will design solutions to real world environmental problems using robots, coding programs, and designated materials in order to develop critical thinking, communication, creativity, and collaboration skills.
Make Predictions
Students will make predictions based on observations using wireless digital probes for data acquisition in order to foster critical thinking skills.
Synthesize Learning
Students will synthesize their learning of the Law of Transformation of Energy as they design and create a roller coaster using online simulations, documenting their successes and challenges using Screencastify.
Examples of Creative Projects and Products
Share Learning with Recordings
Students will document and share their learning using Screencastify in order to commmunicate thinking with an authentic audience.
Real World Investigations
Students investigate real-world scenarios where the curriculum is relevant and publish a Google Site that articulates this relationship, showcases photographs or digital representations of thier work.
Informational Posters
Students explain and visualize the concepts of heredity, inheritance, natural selection, and variation of traits by creating a punnett square in Adobe Express.
See an Example HERE.
