International Baccalaureate Diploma Program
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Program is a demanding international program that meets the needs of highly motivated students and leads to a qualification that is recognized by leading universities around the world. Typically, diploma holders are ready to debate real-world issues from an international perspective and become leaders in the local and global communities.
The IB Diploma Program is globally recognized for its high academic standards. At Girls' High, Students take three higher level (HL) classes in IB Language A: Literature, IB History of Africa and the Middle East, and IB Visual Arts. Students also take SL classes: Language acquisition, IB Math: Applications and Interpretations, and IB Biology.
In addition, students will take the Theory of Knowledge course that investigates the nature of knowledge in various disciplines; participate in a Creativity, Action, Service project to achieve eight learning outcomes, undertake original research, and write an Extended Essay of 4,000 words.
Students successfully completing the program earn a diploma from the Philadelphia High School for Girls in addition to the internationally recognized IB diploma.
