How old do students have to be?
In order to qualify, students must be between the ages of 18 to 22. They must reach the age of 22 by year's end to be eligible.
How long is the program?
Project SEARCH is a one year transition program preparing the young adults for employment at the end of the school year. Students exit district services at the end of the year, receive their diploma and are expected to seek a minimum of 16 hours of employment.
Project Career Launch is typically a one year program preparing the young adults for a career path that may involve further training or employment. Students exit district services at the end of the program, receive their diploma, and are expected to enter post-secondary training or employment.
What is the difference between Project Search and Project Career Launch?
Project SEARCH is for students who have a diagnosis of an intellectual disability. Project SEARCH at Drexel is for students who have a diagnosis of an intellectual disability and autism.
Project Career Launch is for students who do not have an intellectual disability, but they do have other disabilities that pose a barrier to employment and a smooth transition from school services to adulthood.
How do the students get to the program? Is there yellow bus service?
No, however these transition programs are designed to prepare the young adults for life after school services end. For this reason, travel training to use public transportation is an important part of this program. Once accepted to the program, students are travel trained over the summer by experienced employment specialists to learn to get to the off-site location they have been assigned to.
