Who is my teacher?
This year you'll have a homeroom teacher who teaches you some subjects and another teacher who teaches you others. Specifically, Ms. Wraith (Homeroom 208) will be teaching Math and Science, and Ms. Solomon (Homeroom 207) will be teaching Literacy and Social Studies. Your homeroom teacher will be your primary point of contact for questions or needs in general, but each of us will be the leader of our own subjects for the whole 3rd grade. Basically, you get two teachers this year! Cool!
What's my username and password?
Students get passwords from their teacher at the beginning of each school year. Your username for Philasd.org is your district ID number, and that stays the same each year. When you're logging in to Google, your username is your IDNUMBER@philasd.org, not just your ID number. If you need your username or password, just ask your teacher! Parents and Guardians: You have your own portal, too!
Where are my lessons and classwork?
All of our schoolwork will be on Google Classroom this year. You'll find the Google Meet link for live meetings on each subject page, and all your assignments will all be there too. Navigate to Google Classroom using the Student Portal's Message Center to make sure you're logged in correctly.
How do I come to class virtually?
Go to your Google Classroom page, and click the link in the banner for the subject of the class you should be attending. Navigate to Google Classroom using the Student Portal's Message Center to make sure you're logged in correctly.
By the way, be sure to check out our class expectations by scrolling to the bottom of this page.
How will I know when I have class?
Schedules will be posted on this site, Class Dojo, and Google Classroom.
What do I do if I'm struggling with my work?
Ask your teachers for help! We may not be together physically, but we are still a class and we're still your teachers. We can meet one-on-one, go over assignments again, and set up plans together so we can all be successful this year. All you have to do is ask!
How do I get help with my Chromebook?
For Chromebook questions and assistance, please call the Parent & Family Technology Support Hotline at 215-400-4444 or visit https://www.philasd.org/coronavirus/chromebooks/ for more information.
What will I learn this year?
3rd grade math and science is so much fun! In math, we'll cover multiplication, division, fractions, regular and irregular shapes' areas, telling and interpreting time to the minute, and measurement of volume and mass. In science we'll cover the Scientific Method, weather, motion, matter and its physical properties, and ecosystems. I am so excited to learn with you this year!
This will be a school year like none of us has ever had before, and cooperation will be the key for success. The teacher, the guardian(s), and the student must all uphold their ends of class expectations, and we must respect the vital role each person plays. I promise as your teacher to be here for my students and families and to work diligently to make this year a success, but I need your help to make it all happen.
Our roles may not look identical, but we can all uphold 4 basic principles:
be prompt, be prepared, be communicative, and be courteous.
