1336 Spring Garden St.
Philadelphia, PA 19123
Rehearsal Dates: February 9, 23, March 12, 16 from 10am-1pm.
Transportation provided through individual schools.
There are only four (4) rehearsals. Students are permitted to accrue ONE absence from the rehearsals. Missing more than one rehearsal may result in your removal from the choir. The reason for an absence does not matter. Please schedule all general medical appointments outside of rehearsal dates. Please keep in mind that the rehearsal and concert take place during cold and flu season, so stay healthy by drinking water and getting a good night’s sleep every day!
**If there are any significant, pre-existing conflicts (e.g. college interview/audition or a major medical procedure) which are scheduled on the same day as a rehearsal, those conflicts must be communicated to your vocal music teacher IN ADVANCE OF THE DATE THEY OCCUR.
Attendance at the dress rehearsal is MANDATORY - missing the dress rehearsal means that you also miss the concert!
Code of Conduct
The Philadelphia All City Choir is a group of select singers from all over the city. This program has a history that goes back for over 75 years. We would like to use the following code of conduct to help us maintain the highest level of artistry for this incredible tradition.
Always work towards EXCELLENCE.
Be ready to engage in all aspects of the rehearsal, including warm-ups and repertoire.
Be respectful to all teachers and fellow singers.
Be open to learning music that you may not be familiar with.
Uphold all aspects of the Rehearsal Etiquette
Rehearsal Etiquette
The expectation of All City Choir students is that you are fully engaged in the rehearsal process:
Not distracted by any devices (including, but not limited to, cell phones, Chromebook and/or headphones/Airpods)
Not using the time to get caught up on academic work or sleeping
Showing respect for all vocal music teachers and other adults who are involved with All City Choir, and following the instructions given by any of these individuals.
Let’s avoid needing to have a “conversation” with the choir committee by choosing to make the commitment of being fully focused in rehearsal!
Attire that looks “professional” and all-black:
Blouses, dresses, skirts, pants, collared shirts.
These items must also be all-black: dress shoes or flats, belts, socks, ties.
“Tops” must reach at least the student’s elbow and also cover shoulders.
“Bottoms” must reach at least the student’s knees (when sitting).
A hairstyle that does not block the face
Post earrings and small necklaces are acceptable jewelry
NOT PERMITTED: t-shirts, jeans, sweatpants, leggings, sneakers, as well as any clothing items that contain see-through material, have plunging necklines, or exposed midriffs.
Students who arrive to the concert out of compliance with the dress code will not be permitted to perform.
Tuesday, March 17 (8:30am-1pm)
Students are responsible for their own transportation TO and FROM the dress rehearsal, as well as the performance that evening.
Choir call time is 8:30am
Concert attire is NOT required for this rehearsal.
Enter through 15th St. doors and report downstairs to Innovation Studio.
SIT IN ASSIGNED SEATS - teachers will be taking attendance from the seating chart and will be moving students who are in the wrong places. Some seats will also be changing for those students who have to leave the choir area during the concert for various reasons.
Leave ALL belongings at home - bring only your music, pencil, and water bottle. No food permitted in Innovation Studio or Marian Anderson Hall.
Music must be in an all black folder, binder, or tablet cover.
Choir will be released by 1pm at the latest.
MISSING THE DRESS REHEARSAL MEANS YOU ALSO MISS THE CONCERT. Unavoidable conflicts (e.g. college audition) should have been shared by now. Please plan your schedules and transportation needs accordingly.
