MISSION STATEMENT
The Parkway Peace and Social Justice Academy functions to cultivate student leaders by providing them with a wide variety of educational experiences, community-service based learning, and youth activism opportunities & initiatives to ensure they learn, explore, investigate, understand, challenge, and bring awareness to Peace and Social Justice issues that directly impact their communities.
A BRIEF HISTORY
Parkway Northwest High School is a Philadelphia magnet school that balances its commitment to peace and social justice with a student-centered academic program that boasts a 90% college acceptance rate and over $1,000,000 in scholarships each year.
The Academy for Peace and Social Justice was founded in response to the past two years of racial reckoning that clearly demonstrated many Americans, especially young black Americans, are willing and able to put in the work to rebuild a true democracy of equals. Inspired by these young activists across the country, we instill in our students the drive to address and confront the needs of marginalized communities by performing acts of service and activism through the lens of peace and social justice.
The 2021-2022 school year will focus on program creation and school-based efforts to refine the model to build student leadership and student voice around social justice. This will entail curricular reform, student leadership development, a track of student community involvement and extracurricular programs that will support the school’s mission around peace and social justice.
We are committed to developing the specific needs of every student and preparing them to lead, succeed, and contribute to their communities and the world.
