Fun Slides

Our students took a field trip to Fun Slides Carpet Skate park! On the field trip, students learned about Physical Science, Isaac Newton, and his three laws of motion. How fun!

SPANISH

As part of the Las Posadas Unit, 8th Grade Spanish students learned:

  • Traditional Mexican Celebration
  • Created a calendar for the week of 12/18/17 (in collaboration with the cafeteria staff), two days that week students ate Mexican dishes.
  • Translated the School Lunch Menu into Spanish
  • Prepared Mexican dishes. (The recipe is pictured below.)
  • Students researched and prepared PowerPoint presentations of Mexican Tradition, explaining Que (What), Donde (Where), Como (How), & Cuando (When)

LAS POSADAS

Mrs. Creach's Eighth Grade Spanish students visited Kindergarten and First Grade classrooms to teach the history of Las Posadas. In collaboration with the Art teacher, students prepared crafts for the Kindergarten and First Grade students. The crafts were: Lanterns, Poinsettias, and Piñatas. Upon completion of the lesson, the song "Feliz Navidad" was taught and sung with the students.

Student Instructors: Laura Fortuna, Madison Hickman, Brionna Davis, Amonee Butler, Arianna Thomas, Nilahyia Varela, Alaysia Williams-Kirkland, and Danielle Chavis.

Music

On Monday, December 18, 5th - 8th grade students who performed in the Winter Concert went on a field trip to the University of Pittsburgh to see the annual showing of the play "Black Nativity." This play by Langston Hughes is a retelling of the nativity story with a black cast. What makes this long-running Pittsburgh play unique is that it features West African and Gospel music. Many of the performers in the play were children, who performed amazing dances along with great acting of the story. At the end of the play, members of the cast asked audience members to stand and dance along with them. The performers even pulled up a couple of staff members! To top it all off, our students were some of the most behaved students at the showing - and we are so proud.

MicroSociety

Students in Soarmania have been busy working and preparing to open their venture or agency for shoppers. All businesses have created goals that they are working hard to meet. After Holiday Break, businesses will be open and the citizens of Soarmania will have the chance to shop at the local businesses and spend their hard earned paycheck.

The Book Stop venture prepares for their first day of business for the citizens of Soarmania.
