Happy February PHCSE!
This year marks the 100th anniversary of Black History Month !!!!!! A milestone that invites both reflection and renewed intention as we honor the contributions, stories, and impact of Black individuals throughout our nation’s history. As we step into February, I want to pause and name this moment, not only as a celebration, but as an opportunity to learn, grow, and engage more deeply, together. Black history is not separate from American history. It is woven into our literature, science, art, leadership, innovation, and everyday life.
This month offers us a chance as a staff alongside our families, to revisit stories we may think we already know, uncover voices that deserve greater attention, and celebrate the richness of history that continues to shape our present.
As a challenge for this month, I invite you to:
Learn something new—about a person, moment, movement, or contribution you haven’t explored before
Share that learning with your scholar, teacher, or a member of the Leadership team in ways that feel authentic to you
Create space for curiosity, conversation, and celebration
Great learning always happen outside the bounds of our comfort. Demonstrating new learning in front of our scholars allows them to get a glimpse into the way we seek to gain understanding and go after new knowledge even as adults. So, let’s begin with intention—encouraging our scholars and ourselves to learn broadly, think deeply, and recognize the significance of this moment and this history. Thank you for the care you bring to our school, and for engaging in this month's journey along with us.
Let's get after it.
