WRITE ABOUT IT!

Your child is living through a major point in HISTORY! This is a booklet to help your child document this time. Encourage good handwriting so they can read what this was like for them 20 years from now!

COMPREHENSION

*After your child has read one of the two types of books, use the questions below to see if they comprehended what they read. If they are having trouble with these questions, have them read the story again out loud to you. Stop them as they read (every couple pages) and see if they understand what is going on!

Fiction: Non-fiction:

Who are the main characters? What is the story all about?

What is the setting of this story? Name a fact you learned from this story.

What is this story all about (main idea)? What is your opinion about this story?

What was the problem in the story? Where does this story take place?

What was the solution to the problem? Which illustrations gave you clues about the story?

Writing: We will work on a different grammar skill each week and incorporate that into our writing. The following are some ways to strengthen your writing skills at home:

  • typed emails to family members or friends

  • thank you notes for gifts or experiences

  • diary/journal for written expression

  • Mom & Me OR Dad & Me Journal (write back and forth)

  • write a grocery list
