Principal's Message
Dear CAPA Families,
Good Afternoon CAPA Families,
As we head into Spring Break, I want to take a moment to wish all of our students and families a safe, restful, and enjoyable break. This is a well-deserved opportunity to recharge, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for a strong finish to the school year.
As we approach the upcoming NFL Draft in Pittsburgh, we want to make sure families are aware that there will be a number of road closures and traffic pattern changes throughout the city. These updates may impact daily commutes both before and after the break. We encourage you to stay informed by reviewing the latest transportation updates here:
In addition, we have been informed that Fort Duquesne Boulevard and 9th Street will be undergoing repairs in the coming weeks. At this time, the work is expected to take place primarily overnight (pending final confirmation). The City has shared that they will provide us with more specific dates as they become available, and we will be sure to pass that information along to families.
We are also excited to share that we have finalized plans for several important upcoming events for new and transitioning students. Please mark your calendars:
MS New Student Night: April 29th, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Move-Up Day (HS) & Accepted Students Day (MS): May 21st
Additional details for both events will be shared in the coming weeks.
Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and support. Enjoy the break, and we will see everyone soon!
Have a great week!

Announcements and Celebrations
Salam Alwan (9th grade) and Kaelyn Nguyen (12th grade) won a Scholastic Writing National Award. Salam for her poetry submission "Window Climbing" and Kaelyn for her portfolio of writing entitled "The Nature of Me"
From over 110,000+ submissions the Scholastic Writing competition receives, only 2% are awarded at the National Level. This is an incredible achievement!
The Literary Department is so proud of their work and dedication to writing and expression.
Please congratulate the following CAPA Visual Artists who received medals from this year's National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Competition.
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards receive over 300,000 entries annually, with Gold Keys (top 5-7%) awarded to a small percentage of regional submissions.
These Gold Keys advance to national judging, where less than 1% of entries receive National Medals, making it a highly competitive honor recognizing top teen artistic talent.
Congratulations to our amazing Science Olympiad Team, who combined to win 15 Medals ( 3HS, 12 MS) at this week's competition! Great work by all of our participants and a special thank you to Mr. Williams for his continued commitment to this program!
Have you ever wanted to weave? Then join the Weave-a-thon. It will run on the dates of the Guys and Dolls performances in April in the gallery; dates and times are listed below.
If you don't know how to weave, we will teach you. You can come and weave for as much or as little as you like. If you weave a full towel, you can get it after we finish them all.

Pitt Athletics, in partnership with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, announced the Pitt Block Party at Arts Landing, a three-day celebration coinciding with Draft week in Pittsburgh, April 23–25.
The event will welcome Pitt fans, football lovers, and the entire community for the first major event at Arts Landing—the Cultural Trust's soon-to-debut four-acre civic space in downtown's Cultural District.
Programming will include:
An experiential Pitt Football museum and interactive draft showcase highlighting Panther greats and the program's NFL pipeline
Live music and entertainment
Food trucks, beverages, and local vendors
Activity zone and more!
"We're excited to partner with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust to create a one-of-a-kind experience for our fans during the 2026 NFL Draft. Hosting the NFL Draft is a tremendous moment for the city of Pittsburgh, and the Pitt Block Party at Arts Landing gives our community a dynamic, family-friendly alternative option to be part of the action away from the North Shore..."
- Director of Athletics, Allen Greene
Additional details for the free three-day event will be announced in March, including daily schedules and special appearances.
