Principal's Message
Dear CAPA Families,
As we close the 2025–2026 school year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible celebrations that took place last week. It was a joy to honor our graduating seniors as they crossed the stage and officially joined the ranks of CAPA alumni. Their talent, perseverance, creativity, and growth have left a lasting mark on our school community, and we are excited to see all they accomplish in the years ahead. We were equally proud to celebrate our 8th grade students at commencement as they completed their middle school journey and prepared for the exciting transition to high school.
These milestone events serve as a reminder of what makes CAPA such a special place—a community that nurtures artistic excellence, academic achievement, and personal growth from the moment students arrive until they graduate. We are grateful to all of the families, staff members, and community partners whose support helps make these experiences possible.
As summer begins, we hope that our students and families find time to rest, recharge, and enjoy well-deserved moments together. At the same time, we are already looking ahead with excitement to the 2026–2027 school year and the many opportunities that lie ahead.
As part of our planning for next year, we are sharing our flyer of PSCC meeting dates for 2026–2027. Whether you choose to attend in person or virtually, every meeting will support online participation using the same meeting link, which is included here. We encourage all families to stay engaged and connected through these important opportunities for collaboration, communication, and community building.
We are also excited to introduce a new feature in our newsletter. Beginning this week, you will find an archive section at the bottom of the newsletter that includes links to previous editions. Our hope is that this archive will make it easier for families to access important information, revisit announcements, and stay informed throughout the year.
As we look toward next year, one significant change to the student experience at CAPA will be the implementation of the district's updated cell phone policy. Additionally, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has recently moved to support cell phone restrictions in schools.
Beginning in the 2026–2027 school year, student devices will be collected as part of the morning entry process, securely stored throughout the school day, and redistributed prior to dismissal. Middle school students will receive their devices during their final instructional period, while high school students will have devices returned during their final arts class.
To support this transition, we are increasing staff availability during arrival and dismissal procedures. However, families should anticipate that morning entry may take longer than it has in previous years. Students who currently arrive close to the start of classes should plan to arrive earlier to ensure a smooth entry process and timely arrival to class.
We recognize that this represents a significant change for students and families, and we are committed to making the transition as smooth as possible. Additional information regarding arrival procedures, device collection, and implementation details will be shared throughout the summer and as part of our back-to-school communications.
Families with questions are encouraged to contact CAPA through capahs@pghschools.org or reach out directly to a member of the administrative team using the contact information provided at the end of this newsletter. A link to the Pittsburgh Public Schools implementation guidelines is also included below for those interested in learning more.
We are pleased to share more detailed results from our recent parent feedback survey here. We deeply appreciate the time, thoughtfulness, and partnership reflected in the responses we received, and we look forward to using that feedback as we continue working to strengthen the CAPA experience for all students and families.
Finally, a reminder that summer work is posted on our district webpage, which can be found here.
Thank you for your partnership and support throughout this school year. We wish all of our CAPA families a safe, restful, and joyful summer, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back in August for another outstanding year at CAPA.
