Volunteering

Walker Mill's TAG program strongly believes in extending the learning experiences of our students outside of the classroom by providing more in-depth examination into topics. We are always in need of chaperones for our field trips. However the safety of our students and staff is a high priority for our school. For this reason there are several steps parents need to follow in order to be able to chaperone on a field trip with their child.

There are two requirements that must be completed in order to become a chaperone for Walker Mill Middle School:

  1. Undergo a fingerprint background check and a Child Protective Services (CPS) clearance at least (14) business days prior to chaperoning for a trip
    • The cost for fingerprinting and CPS clearance is $62.25. (Acceptable payments are cash, money order,Debit/Visa/MasterCard)
    • There are two locations sites:
        • Sasscer Administration Building Background Unit
        • Hughes Barney Investigations
    • Once your fingerprints have been taken, you must bring the yellow portion of the clearance to the main office at least (14) days prior to the field trip.
    • For more information on fingerprinting and CPS clearance see the flyers below.

2. Complete the required SafeSchools training modules each school year prior to chaperoning any trips

    • There are three training modules that must be complete
        • Prince George's County Child Abuse Mandatory Reporting
        • Prince George's County Public Schools' Student Safety Procedural Changes
        • Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Prevention
    • As you complete your training modules, you will receive a certificate of completion. Please print these out and turn them into the office prior to chaperoning on a field trip.
    • The training is available online through the SafeSchools training management system. Click here to access the training.
