The mission of the Potomac High School Mathematics Department is to sustain a culture of teaching and learning in which scholars become versed in foundational, intermediate, advanced and collegiate level mathematics and mathematical application. This is accomplished through our commitment to excellent teaching, a well-designed curriculum, and a supportive environment for all our students. In support of our mission, we remain committed to professional development, updating curriculum, making real-world connections, and incorporating technology.
Our Mathematics Department will use the Standards for Mathematical Practices to assist with scholars processes and proficiencies by establishing clear, consistent guidelines for what scholars should know and be able to do in math. The Mathematical Practices are aligned with Common Core and focus on developing the critical-thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills scholars will need to be successful.
