Media Arts Open House/Audition Support Information Night Follow-Up

VPA TV/Media Arts Total Audition time: Approximately 15-20 minutes
What we are looking for
We are looking for students who are intelligent, respectful, and excited to create, first and foremost. The prospective student should be confident about their voice in their media art creations, and convey meaning through their artwork. Prospective students must engage with technology and have an awareness of technology and Media Arts as a viable means of communication. Finally, prospective students must be willing to learn, develop and refine their artistic work in the program.
What to bring/how to prepare
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS :
Create a piece of art using technology: podcast (max 5 minutes), short video (max 5 minutes), website, animation, video game or concept for a game (cannot be hand drawn), digital music/ sound design (must be original). A list of potential tools you could use for your audition piece. Keep in mind that:
a. Digital graphic art and digital photography could be used as a collection (5-10 pieces), you should submit an online portfolio/website.
b. Please follow all copyright and digital citizenship policies.
c. Families are encouraged to not spend any additional money to create the Media Arts audition art. Please use free apps and current technology available.
Be able to share your Media Art using a link. That can be the share link from the application or from Google Drive. A Google Form will be provided to those who receive an audition to send your link.
During the audition process, student must be able to explain their creative process.
a. How did they come up with the idea?
b. What tool(s) did they use to create their art? Why did they choose those tools?
c. What were some challenges during the process?
d. If they had more time or resources, what would they have done differently?
The audition itself
There will be an interview with each student.
The student will share their Media Artwork, explain their idea and creative process, and discuss why they are interested in the Media Arts Program.
Have a successful audition
Be prepared to discuss your work.
Be prepared to discuss where you want to go, and what you hope to accomplish in the program.
Engage – be an active participant in the audition process.
Present yourself well – arrive promptly, dress neatly, and speak clearly and confidently.
