Helping Students Take Control of Everyday Executive Functions

Session Description: Everyday Executive Functions concern parents and teachers each day, and students of all ages are challenged with their evolving and developing Executive Functions. This presentation will provide an overview of executive function from both school and home perspectives. Participants will learn how to identify executive function needs for their student(s), learn about a variety of new approaches to help the student, and discover ways to become better able to bridge the home/school relationship while providing guidance for their students.

Understanding and Managing Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

This session will focus on how to appropriately use behavior management principles can be an effective component in the successful management of ADHD. These strategies can result in not only improved child behavior, but also improved parent-child interactions and reduced stress for the family. This session will provide an up-to-date understanding of ADHD and its impact on their child’s behavior as well as teach specific strategies to address the most common problems children who have ADHD experience. Caregivers also learn how to be successful advocates for their child. The goal of our program is to empower caregivers to manage their child's ADHD more effectively and to help their child succeed.

These "IQ" Scores - What Do They Mean?

A single IQ score should never describe all that a student is or can be. However, these scores play a large role in how we understand students. So, how well do we understand these scores? In this session, we will explain IQ scores using sample results from the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, 5th edition. By the end of the session, you will be exposed to why IQ scores are used, how you should view them and what it might mean for your student in the classroom.

Supporting Coping Skills and Frustration

This session will focus Emotion recognition is a very important component of managing frustration. Emotions may on understanding the link between executive functioning and problems with emotion regulation and frustration in order to help children learn to deal with these difficulties. We will review strategies caregivers can use to reduce this frustration and improve your child’s compliance. We will discuss the importance of your serving as your child’s Frustration Management Coach, encouraging them to practice specific emotion recognition and cognitive-behavioral coping skills. We will also discuss how to support children in practicing these skills as part of their daily lives during times when they are calm or in control, as well as prompting them to use them at the first signs of frustration.

Transgender Issues on the Autism Spectrum

Session Description: In this workshop, families, self-advocates, and professionals will learn more about the co-occurrence of gender diversity and neurodiversity and where autism and gender diversity intersect. What are the best ways to support those who are gender divergent as well as those who are neurodivergent? How can families and professionals be supportive and affirming while teaching important skills and assisting with decision-making? Tips for navigating school and healthcare systems and future employment will also be covered. Time will also be provided for audience questions.

Becoming a Holistic Parent Advocate - It Starts With Vision

SESSION DESCRIPTION: What does it mean to be a parent advocate? What does it mean to be holistic? This webinar is for parents, caregivers and the professionals who support those living with developmental differences. It strives to create a definition of Holistic Parent Advocacy that is as unique as each person in attendance, with the ultimate goal of empowering parents and caregivers to build a vision for their loved ones and themselves. This vision will serve as a guide for their decisions around the supports and services in their home, medical and educational settings, as well as the community at large. Abila (a pediatrician) and Eva (a community special needs advocate) are mothers who will authentically share their life experiences and the core principles of the Charting the Life Course Framework. They will mentor attendees in changing the narrative of parenting a child with different abilities from one of pain, difficulty and despair to one of greater and more sustained hope, health and happiness! This is an interactive, reflective, and thought-provoking offering.

Understanding Dyslexia

SESSION DESCRIPTION: This session will help participants gain an understanding of dyslexia and how research in the Science of Reading has shifted educational practices to support students with dyslexia. Our families of students with disabilities are often presented with unique set of challenges caring for their child and in navigating the many systems of support, this includes ensuring self-care is a part of the process. Ambassador Speakers Bureau is a leading provider in inspirational speakers. Mr. Rosenberger, a speaker with the Ambassador Speakers Bureau, is an author/radio host and advocate to and for the family caregivers. Drawing upon his 30 years of experience as a caregiver, he offers practical help to strengthen his fellow caregivers. He will present to our Prince George’s County Public School families of students with disabilities and collaborative stakeholders on supporting caregivers by addressing the challenges of life, business, and relationships with candor, compassion, and comedy.
